Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) has finally unveiled a Directory for the use of its real-time and historical data. After the implementation of the procedure, it will be possible to use the API* of data related to shares transactions from NEPSE.
*API is the acronym for Application Programming Interface, which is a software intermediary that allows communication between NEPSE's storage of data and the entity that wants the data.
Last month, Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) finally approved the NEPSE data usage policy. With the protocol approved, Nepal Stock Exchange is now free to sell its data. Prior to this, the protocol wasn't permitted, so NEPSE was unable to sell its data.
Now, financial institutions, research firms, news portals, analysts, students, and investors can ethically use market data after paying a certain fee. According to the new directory, NEPSE will provide an API for users.
Users who are interested in the data may request it from NEPSE, but they must apply for access to it within 30 days. Any entity wishing to receive data generated by NEPSE's transaction system must agree to the terms of Section 4 of NEPSE's data usage procedures, which states that any entity using NEPSE data must inform NEPSE of the specific purpose for which the data will be used and submit an application and supporting documentation. The NEPSE system operating section has also been asked to be contacted in order to receive more information about this.
Under the Information Technology Policy, 2077, the Board of Directors of NEPSE has made the following procedure to provide real-time or historical data by charging certain fees from various users. Here is the PDF file of such fees and policies.
