The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has committed to assisting in the reconstruction of the Kavre Valley Integrated Water Supply Scheme (KVIWSS), which was severely damaged by floods and landslides caused by incessant rainfall on September 27 and 28.

The KVIWSS project, currently in its final stages, aims to enhance the water supply to Banepa, Panauti, and Dhulikhel—three historic towns in Kavre district. Following a meeting on Monday between ADB officials, including its Country Director for Nepal, Arnaud Cauchois, and a team from KVIWSS led by Board Chairman and Dhulikhel Mayor Ashok Byanju, the ADB pledged its support.

Mayor Byanju stated that ADB has agreed to prepare a detailed project report and provide financial aid for the reconstruction of the damaged infrastructure. The floods and landslides caused extensive damage, including destruction to the project's intake structures, water tanks, distribution mains, and branch pipes, amounting to an estimated loss of Rs 218 million.

Launched in 2012, the KVIWSS project was designed to address drinking water challenges in Dhulikhel, Banepa, and Panauti. Upon completion, the scheme is expected to benefit 140,000 residents, ensuring 24-hour water supply directly to their homes.

The project, which excludes VAT in its total cost, is valued at Rs 990.8 million and is anticipated to be completed by 2024.
