BABA Project Concludes in Kathmandu Schools, Promoting Environmental Education and Waste Management
The Balbalika and Batabaran (BABA) Project, a school-based environmental education initiative, officially concluded in two community schools in Kathmandu, implemented in collaboration with Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC), the Centre for Integrated Urban Development (CIUD), and Bottlers Nepal Limited.
The program, launched in June 2024, focused on educating students about waste segregation, recycling, and urban water management as part of KMC’s Book-Free Friday initiative.
The closing event featured the handover of Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) at Himalaya Secondary School and Shree Mahendra Saraswoti Sewa Basic School. Key attendees included KMC Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol and city officials. Students showcased their newly established waste management systems and discussed plans to generate revenue from recycling and fund future school activities.
Officials praised the initiative’s impact on fostering sustainable habits among students, with hopes of expanding waste segregation efforts to households. Coca-Cola Beverages Nepal reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability, while CIUD highlighted the program’s role in instilling long-term environmental awareness among students.
