Bardiya’s Seema, Along with Other Girls, Takes Over Leadership Roles in the ‘Girls Takeover’ Program
Seema, a 16-year-old from Bardiya, had the extraordinary opportunity to serve as the British Ambassador for a day. Initially, she was intrigued by the embassy's work, especially in areas like border inquiries and promoting girls' issues.
The experience increased her curiosity, and she found the environment child-friendly with spaces for play and Nepali traditions like flower rangoli. After assuming the ambassador's role, Seema felt motivated as she received praise from her peers, boosting her confidence.
Similarly, Deepshikha took over as the Vice President of the National Youth Council, where she learned about the work and duties of the role and interacted with the minister, who joked about her position.
Lalita, as the Norwegian Ambassador for a day, learned about Norway's involvement in various fields such as climate change and children's education, working with organizations like UNICEF. This experience inspired her to focus on women's and children’s rights.
The 'Girls Takeover' program, organized by Plan International, allows girls and teenagers to step into leadership roles for a day to gain confidence and understand the responsibilities of leadership.
This initiative, launched on International Day of the Girl Child, encourages young girls to explore opportunities in leadership and various sectors. In 2024, 30 girls participated in the program, preparing a 'Girls Manifesto' and focusing on issues girls may face during natural disasters. The program aims to expand to over 50 girls this year.
