Chilime-Trishuli 220 kV Transmission Line Completed, Paving Way for Power Supply to National Grid
The Chilime-Trishuli 220 kV transmission line, spanning 28 kilometers from the Chilime Hub Sub-Station in Rasuwa district to the Trishuli III B Hub Station in Nuwakot district, has now been completed. This transmission line is crucial for transporting electricity from various hydropower projects along the Trishuli River and its tributaries to the national grid, supporting current and future energy needs.
Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Executive Director Kul Man Ghising highlighted that construction was expedited with workers and contractors operating even during the Dashai and Tihar holidays. This infrastructure is now prepared to handle power supply from projects like the 111-megawatt Rasuwagadhi and 42.5-megawatt Sanjen, both of which are in the final stages of power production, as well as other upcoming projects in Rasuwa.
The Chilime-Trishuli project, with an estimated cost of $3.62 billion, is funded through a combination of NEA investment, a grant from the German Development Bank (KfW), and a concessional loan from the European Investment Bank. The construction agreement with a Chinese company was signed in Kartik 2074 BS, marking a key step in enhancing Nepal’s power infrastructure.
