Citizens Bank International and NCHL Partner to Enable Alipay+ Cross-Border QR Payments in Nepal

Citizens Bank International and NCHL have partnered to enable cross-border QR payments in Nepal for Alipay+ users. The agreement was signed by Mr. Ganesh Raj Pokhrel, CEO of Citizens Bank, and Mr. Neelesh Man Singh Pradhan, CEO of NCHL.

Key Highlights:

i. Cross-Border Payment: Tourists from countries like China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea, and Italy can use their domestic mobile wallets to scan NEPALPAY and interoperable QR codes in Nepal.
ii. Alipay+ Network: Aggregates over 30 payment instruments, connects to 300+ acquiring networks, and serves 90 million merchants across 66 markets. It supports popular wallets such as Alipay, KakaoPay, TossPay, and Gcash.
iii. NCHL's Role: Facilitates the connection with Alipay+ through its NEPALPAY QR system, which supports interoperability among 850,000 merchants across Nepal.

With 197 branches, 162 ATMs, and 1.8 million customers, Citizens Bank is one of Nepal's leading commercial banks. It has onboarded over 13,000 merchants to NEPALPAY QR, promoting seamless digital payments for tourists and locals alike.
