Coalition in Disarray; CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist Center Set to Establish New Power Alliance
The ruling coalition in Nepal has officially collapsed as the Nepali Congress-led alliance disintegrated following a pivotal agreement between the CPN-UML and the CPN-Maoist Center to realign power dynamics.
The extensive meeting between the Congress and the Maoist Center, which extended into Sunday evening, resulted in a transformative shift in the political landscape. Reportedly, a fresh power equation will be established based on the coalition formed on Poush 10 of the previous year.
In the newly formed cabinet, representation has been allocated to key political players, with one minister appointed from each of the major parties – CPN-UML, CPN-Maoist Center, Rashtriya Swatantra Party, and Janata Samajwadi Party. The Rastriya Swatantra Party has entrusted decision-making authority to Chairman Rabi Lamichhane, as decided in their meeting earlier today.
Simultaneously, the UML secretariat meeting held in Balkot has resolved to expedite the implementation of the revised power equation. Additionally, the meeting endorsed the inclusion of Padam Giri in the government.
Insiders reveal that Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda) is overseeing a cabinet reshuffle today. The prime minister is said to take decisive steps to reorganize the cabinet by dismissing controversial ministers and ushering in a new phase of governance.
