Construction Commences of 128 MW Tamor-Mewa Hydropower Project

Construction of the Tamor-Mewa Hydropower Project, with a capacity of 128 megawatts, has officially begun. Promoted by Spark Hydroelectric Company Limited, the project is anticipated to be completed within four years.

The foundation stone for the project was laid on Thursday by Constituent Assembly Member Sanchapal Maden and the company's chairman, Bhanendra Kumar Limbu. The project is located in Aathrai Tribeni Rural Municipality and Phungling Municipality in the Taplejung district.

During the foundation ceremony, the Mayor of Phungling Municipality, Amir Maden, highlighted the project's significance for the district's development. "The development of this electricity project will pave the way for economic prosperity in the district. Additionally, the project will offer shares to local residents," he stated. Mayor Maden also urged the project promoters to prioritize local employment and uphold corporate social responsibility within the project area.

The total estimated cost for the Tamor-Mewa Hydropower Project is Rs 24.32 billion.
