Continuous Rainfall Claims 102 Lives in Nepal, Landslides Block 46 Routes Connecting Kathmandu
Continuous rainfall across Nepal has caused widespread devastation, leading to 102 fatalities due to floods, landslides, and inundation. The Armed Police Force (APF) reported that 64 individuals are still missing, with 45 others injured. The highest toll has been in the Kathmandu Valley, where 48 deaths and 21 missing persons have been recorded. Other affected regions include Koshi Province, with 15 fatalities, Madhesh Province with 2, and Bagmati Province with 37.
In addition to the loss of life, the rainfall has severely disrupted transportation, with 46 routes connecting Kathmandu Valley to other districts closed due to landslides. Key highways, including the Prithvi Highway and Kathmandu-Mugling-Narayanghat route, have been blocked since Saturday. Traffic on these roads is not expected to resume soon. The BP Highway, which links eastern Nepal to Kathmandu, has also been obstructed.
Moreover, all roads between Hetauda and Kathmandu, such as the Kanti Lokpath, Rajdhani Marga (Bhimfedi-Kulekhani-Sisneari-Southkalai-Kathmandu), and Tribhuvan Highway, have been closed. Landslides have also blocked the Araniko Highway, with parts of the Kathmandu-Dhulikhel-Dolalghat-Khadichaur-Kodari road rendered impassable. Authorities continue to monitor the situation as rescue and relief efforts are underway.
