CPN-UML Parliamentary Party Meeting to Discuss Government Budget
The CPN-UML Parliamentary Party is currently convening a meeting today (June 2) to discuss the budget presented by the government in the House of Representatives. The meeting is being held in the Lhotse Hall of the Federal Parliament Building in New Baneshwor.
According to the CPN-UML, the parliamentarians are receiving training on the budget led by former Finance Ministers Yubraj Khatiwada and Bishnu Paudel, who is also the party's Vice Chairman, along with the party's General Secretary Shankar Pokharel. Following the training session, Chairman KP Sharma Oli addressed the MPs.
The government unveiled a budget of Rs 1.860 trillion for the next fiscal year on May 28. In response, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has instructed Maoist MPs to actively participate in the budget discussions by convening a parliamentary party meeting.
Additionally, National Assembly Speaker Narayan Dahal has scheduled a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee to finalize the agenda for parliamentary sessions until mid-June. According to the published agenda, the National Assembly will meet on June 2, 3, 4, 10, and 11.
The agenda includes:
a) June 2: Discussion on the annual estimate of revenue and expenditure will begin. The Ordinance to amend certain Nepal Acts related to investment facilitation, 2080 BS, will be presented for consideration. Clause-wise discussion will be held on the Media Council Bill, 2080 BS, and the report of the Committee on Secure Transaction Bill will be presented.
b) June 3: Continued discussion on the annual estimate of revenue and expenditure.
c) June 4: Further discussion on the annual estimate of revenue and expenditure, with the Finance Minister addressing questions raised during the discussions.
d) June 10: Discussion on proposals of urgent public importance related to the reduction of road accidents. The Media Council Bill, 2080 BS, will be sent to the committee for detailed discussion.
e) June 11: Submission of the report of the constitutional body and discussion and approval of the Committee on Secure Transactions Bill report.
The meetings and discussions are expected to facilitate thorough examination and debate on the budget and related legislative proposals, ensuring informed decision-making and effective governance.
