In a historic and unexpected turn of events, former President Donald Trump has been projected to win the 2024 presidential election, securing his second term in the White House by defeating Vice President Kamala Harris. According to Fox News, this victory makes Trump the 47th President of the United States and the first to serve two nonconsecutive terms since Grover Cleveland in 1892.
Trump’s campaign and ultimate triumph followed an extraordinary election season, marked by turbulent events and even two reported assassination attempts. Initially elected in 2016, he defeated Hillary Clinton with his “Make America Great Again” platform. Despite losing to Joe Biden in 2020 amidst the global COVID-19 pandemic, Trump returned to the political stage with a refreshed message, “Make America Great Once Again.”
Launching his comeback campaign on November 15, 2022, Trump focused on critiques of the Biden-Harris administration, emphasizing issues such as rising inflation and border security. Amid a competitive Republican primary, Trump emerged as the dominant candidate, ultimately securing endorsements from his former rivals and winning every primary.
For much of the race, Trump was expected to face President Biden, who initially sought re-election. However, following a challenging debate in June, Biden withdrew from the race in July under pressure from Democratic insiders, clearing the way for Vice President Harris to run against Trump.
With this victory, Trump reclaims the presidency and enters history as only the second U.S. president to serve two nonconsecutive terms.
