DPM Narayan Kaji Shrestha Directs Diplomatic Missions to Focus on Economic Diplomacy
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha has called on Nepal's diplomatic missions abroad to work proactively towards expanding exports, promoting tourism, and managing foreign employment. Addressing Nepal's Ambassadors and Mission Chiefs virtually on Thursday, Shrestha emphasized the government's priority on economic diplomacy.
In his address, Shrestha urged Nepali Ambassadors to be sensitive to the professional welfare and security concerns of Nepali migrant workers in their host countries. He highlighted the discrepancy between foreign investment commitments and actual inflows, instructing the missions to actively secure Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and foreign assistance as promised.
Recalling the recently held Third Investment Summit, Shrestha directed diplomatic missions to follow up with foreign participants from the summit and inform them about investment opportunities in Nepal. He also encouraged the ambassadors to explore international markets for Nepal's exportable goods, attract potential investors, and promote Nepal as an attractive investment destination.
Additionally, Shrestha urged the ambassadors to work diligently in promoting Nepal as a preferred tourism destination worldwide.
