Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said the settlement of flood-hit Melamchi Bazaar will be managed in secured places.

Making on-site inspection of flood-ravaged areas, including Melamchi municipality and Helambu municipality today, PM Oli shared the government’s plan to shift the bazaar to other secured places and cultivate vegetables and fruits in the flood-hit areas. The Prime Minister also said that the long-term solutions will be explored in the disaster-prone areas of Melamchi Bazaar.

He also called upon all political parties and organizations to rise above the political faith and ideology to provide humanitarian support to the flood-hit communities.

“It is not necessary to do politics during the times of disasters. We should join hands to lend support to the indigent people and explore solutions in a proactive and unified manner”, he further said.

PM Oli also called on reaching out to the relief assistances being distributed by different individuals and institutions to the flood-affected communities through one-door systems for its effective distribution to the target beneficiaries. He also urged not to make religious publicity in the name of relief distribution.

Prime Minister Oli expressed his commitment to immediately intensify the construction of flood-ravaged infrastructure, including roads and bridges of Melamchi.

On the occasion, he also stressed the need to preserve the suspension bridge constructed by Rana Prime Minister Chandra Shumsher in Melamchi. PM Oli pledged to make arrangements for the water supply in the Kathmandu Valley within this year by mending the flood-hit Melamchi Drinking Water Project.

He said that the loss caused to the project was lesser than presumed due to the ongoing test of its tunnel.

On the occasion, PM Oli was accompanied by his spouse Radhika Shakya, Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Basanta Kumar Nembang, and former minister Sher Bahadur Tamang.
