Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba Engages in Diplomatic Talks with South Korea and the Philippines, Strengthening Bilateral Relations

Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, currently attending the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, held separate meetings on Tuesday with the Foreign Ministers of South Korea and the Philippines. Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral ties and enhancing cooperation in various sectors.
In her meeting with South Korean Foreign Minister, Cho Tae-yul, both sides emphasized the longstanding friendly relations between Nepal and South Korea, grounded in mutual respect and understanding. As the two countries celebrated the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year, Dr. Deuba extended an invitation to the South Korean President for a high-level visit to Nepal, which she noted would further solidify bilateral ties. She also expressed gratitude for South Korea's Employment Permit System (EPS), which has provided job opportunities for Nepali workers, and acknowledged the scholarships offered to Nepali students and civil servants. Dr. Deuba encouraged further South Korean investment in Nepal, highlighting South Korea’s significant contributions, including an investment of around Rs 12 billion in the last fiscal year. Additionally, she sought Korea's support for Nepal’s candidacy for the United Nations Human Rights Council and Security Council.
During a separate meeting with Philippine Foreign Minister Enrique A. Manalo, the two leaders discussed mutual interests and areas for future cooperation. Dr. Deuba also requested the Philippines' support for Nepal’s candidacies in the UN Human Rights Council and Security Council. Both meetings underscored the importance of strengthening partnerships and collaboration on global and regional issues.
