Foxconn, the partner company of American IT giant Apple, has initiated the production of the new iPhone series in India.
According to a report from the Times of India, Foxconn has commenced the production of the iPhone 15 at its factory located in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu.
The Sriperumbudur plant of Foxconn Technology Group is now operating at an accelerated pace, with plans to start shipping iPhones to Apple within the coming weeks, alongside its production facilities in China.
With a global announcement imminent, the 'Made in India' iPhone 15 is expected to hit the market in just a matter of weeks, possibly as early as September 12.
Apple is actively pursuing the rapid and large-scale manufacturing of the iPhone 15 in India, in addition to the production by Foxconn.
Beyond Foxconn, India will soon be involved in the 'assembly' of the iPhone 15, with Indian companies Pegatron and Tata Group taking part in this endeavor. These two companies are reportedly in the process of acquiring a Taiwanese factory located in Bangalore for this purpose.
Notably, Foxconn had already commenced the assembly of the iPhone 14 in India starting from September 2022, a few weeks after its global launch.
Apple's CEO, Tim Cook, had previously visited India to study and evaluate the Indian market and manufacturing capabilities. During this visit, Apple inaugurated new stores in Mumbai and Delhi.
Recent reports from Tim Cook revealed record-breaking iPhone sales in India for June, and the performance of Apple's new stores in the country exceeded his expectations.
Furthermore, Apple is reportedly planning to manufacture its wireless earphones, 'AirPods,' in India. The chosen location for this production is Foxconn's Hyderabad factory, slated to begin production in December. Foxconn has committed a substantial investment of $400 million to prepare this factory for AirPods production.
It's worth noting that the new iPhone series is expected to come with a higher price tag compared to previous models. While the pricing of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus is expected to remain consistent with the iPhone 14 model, it is anticipated that the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will come at a higher price point.
