FTQC Office Hetauda Sues 44 Business Firms and Individuals for Selling Substandard and Expired Food

The Food Technology and Quality Control (FTQC) Office in Hetauda has filed lawsuits against 44 business firms and individuals during the fiscal year 2023/24 for various trade-related offenses, including the sale of substandard and expired food products.

The cases were brought against businesses and traders across several regions: seven in Makawanpur, 24 in Kathmandu, five in Chitwan, and eight in Dhulikhel. These actions were based on offenses identified through lab tests conducted on samples collected by the FTQC Office and its division offices throughout the last fiscal year. The cases have been filed under the Food Purity and Quality Act.

Chief of the FTQC Office, Hetauda, Kashinath Ghimire, stated that cases have been lodged at the respective district courts against 32 business firms and at district administration offices against 12 individuals for selling contaminated and expired food items. The FTQC Office tested and analyzed a total of 2,738 samples during the last fiscal year.
