Gandaki Province Constructs 233 Kilometers of Cemented Road in One Year
The Gandaki province government has successfully constructed a total of 233 kilometers of cemented roads in the past fiscal year 2080/81 BS. According to the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development and Transport Management, these roads have been blacktopped and paved through multi-year and annual projects.
Senior Divisional Engineer at the Ministry, Ram Kumar Shrestha, reported that in the last fiscal year, 233 kilometers of roads were blacktopped and 97 kilometers were graveled through various projects implemented across 11 districts of Gandaki province. Additionally, 55 kilometers of new raw roads were constructed, and 146.63 kilometers of existing roads were widened. The projects also included the construction of 227.13 kilometers of drains and 178 causeways and culverts.
For road safety, a total of 219,149.54 cubic meters of retaining walls and 47 kilometers of roads were regularly repaired throughout the province. Shrestha also noted that the Gandaki province government constructed 21 motorable bridges, 19 suspension bridges, and 25 buildings within the same fiscal year.
With a capital budget exceeding NPR 12.18 billion, the Ministry has spent approximately 71.74 percent, or around NPR 8.74 billion. Over the past seven years since the establishment of the province government, the Infrastructure Development Directorate under the Ministry reported that 901 kilometers of roads have been blacktopped and 696 kilometers graveled. Furthermore, 106 motorable bridges and 84 suspension bridges have been constructed during this period.
