Global Tender Issued for Jagadulla Hydropower Project Construction

A global tender has been issued for the selection of contractors to undertake the physical construction of the Jagadulla Hydropower Project, an initiative aimed at "illuminating Karnali."

Chief Executive Officer of the Jagadulla Hydropower Company, Sanjaya Sapkota, announced that the tender covers the main construction, as well as the civil and mechanical works of the project. The notice for the global tender was published on June 2, with the deadline for applications set for August 1, 2024.

The decision to call for a global tender follows the completion of financial management for the project. A bilateral loan agreement was signed in the presence of the Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, Shakti Bahadur Basnet. The project is backed by a consortium of banks and financial institutions led by Nabil Bank, which is contributing Rs 4.4 billion. Other investors include Hydroelectricity Investment and Development Company Limited, Citizen Investment Trust, Laxmi Sunrise, and Everest Bank.

CEO Sapkota expressed confidence in the timely progression of critical tasks, stating, "We have taken ahead crucial works on time. It has opened up avenues for completing the project in the stipulated time."

The Jagadulla Hydropower Project, located in Dolpa district, has a total production capacity of 106 MW. The electricity generated will be connected to the Bafikot substation, which is to be constructed by the Nepal Electricity Authority.
