Government Adopts One-Door Policy for Media Advertisement, Sets Ambitious Targets for IT Sector in FY 2081/82 Budget
The government has announced the implementation of a one-door policy for government advertisements allocated to media houses. This streamlined approach aims to enhance transparency and efficiency in the distribution of advertising revenue.
During the budget announcement for the fiscal year 2081/82, Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun unveiled plans to develop a regulatory framework governing the use of social media. This initiative underscores the government's commitment to ensure responsible and accountable use of digital platforms.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has been allocated a substantial budget of Rs 7.35 Arba, reflecting the government's emphasis on advancing communication and technology infrastructure.
A bold ambition was also outlined by the government, with a target set to export information technology (IT) products worth Rs 30 Kharba over the next decade. This ambitious goal is expected to generate significant employment opportunities, with a projection of creating 500,000 direct and 10 Lakh indirect jobs.
Finance Minister Pun highlighted the forthcoming decade as a pivotal period for the IT sector, emphasizing the government's plans to elevate it as the cornerstone of the economy. Measures include establishing data centers, fostering intellectual property protection, and promoting IT as a key driver of economic growth.
To support these initiatives, the government has allocated Rs 59 Crores for various projects, including the establishment of an IT Park utilizing both government and private buildings in the Kathmandu Valley and Butwal. These parks are envisioned to serve as dynamic work hubs, fostering innovation and collaboration within the industry over a three-year period.
Furthermore, Rs 17 Crores has been earmarked for the establishment of a knowledge park at Khumaltar in Lalitpur, aimed at nurturing talent and promoting research and development in the IT sector. Additionally, efforts will be made to ensure reliable storage of electronic data and to provide internships for youth studying information technology, further enhancing the sector's capacity and capabilities.
