Government Approves Plan to Resolve Electricity Tariff Dispute with Industries
The government has approved a plan to resolve the ongoing electricity tariff dispute with industries that have failed to pay their bills for power consumed through dedicated lines.
A dedicated committee, led by former Supreme Court Justice Girish Chandra Lal, has been tasked with addressing the issue. The Ministry of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation will oversee the implementation of the resolution.
In a Cabinet meeting on Sunday at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar, the government also approved the release of the Inquiry Commission’s report submitted on May 5. The Ministry of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation has been authorized to make this report public. This announcement came from the Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, who is also the government’s spokesperson.
Acknowledging the significant impact on the economy, the Cabinet decided that electricity lines should be reconnected to affected industries within 24 hours, given the disruptions caused to production, revenue, and employment.
Additionally, the government will take steps to recover outstanding electricity bills from industries using dedicated and trunk lines within 15 days, based on their consumption.
