Government Initiates Process for Appointment of New NRB Governor

The government has decided to form a recommendation committee to facilitate the appointment of a new Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB). The decision was made during a Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar.

With the tenure of Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari set to conclude on Chaitra 24 after completing his five-year term, the government has begun preparations for his successor. In the meantime, Adhikari will be on forced leave from Chaitra 5 to Chaitra 15. As the selection process gains momentum, multiple contenders have emerged, actively seeking support from influential political and economic circles. Some aspirants have reportedly started presenting economic policy briefings to key stakeholders in an effort to strengthen their candidacy for the central bank's top position.
