Government Unveils Capital Market Reforms and Institutional Strengthening Measures in Budget Announcement

The budget announcement includes plans for institutional reforms aimed at enhancing investment and ensuring investor protection in the capital market. Finance Minister Barshaman Pun made these declarations while unveiling the budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2081/82

He outlined initiatives for structural improvements in the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) and the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON), emphasizing the enhancement of institutional capacity in the SEBON and Nepal Insurance Authority.

Furthermore, the budget addresses the regulation of commodity exchange markets, emphasizing the importance of legal and institutional frameworks for their operation.

Additionally, provisions have been made in the budget to mandate companies with capital exceeding a certain threshold to be listed on the secondary market, ensuring greater oversight and transparency in the capital market.
