Government Utilizes Less Than 50% of Development Budget with Just 15 Days Left in Fiscal Year
With just 15 days left in the current fiscal year, the government has spent less than half of the funds allocated for development projects.
As of Friday, the government had utilized only 48.13 percent of the capital expenditure budget. Records from the Financial Comptroller General Office (FCGO) indicate that just Rs 145.39 billion of the Rs 302.07 billion earmarked for capital expenditure has been spent.
In contrast, recurrent expenditure has surpassed 76 percent of the allocated Rs 1.141 trillion. Additionally, Rs 227.65 billion has been spent on servicing the interest and principal of the public debt.
The underutilization of the capital expenditure budget highlights ongoing challenges in project implementation and resource management, while the high recurrent expenditure underscores the government's focus on operational costs over developmental investments.
