Govind Ghimire Appointed as CEO of NMB Bank

The Board of Directors of NMB Bank has appointed Govind Ghimire as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for a four-year term. The decision was made during a board meeting held on Friday.

Ghimire, who currently serves as the Senior Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Senior DCEO), will assume the role following the completion of the tenure of the incumbent CEO, Sunil KC. As per the provisions of the Bank and Financial Institutions Act (BAFIA), an individual cannot serve as CEO for more than two terms. With KC completing his two-term tenure at the end of Falgun, Ghimire has been entrusted with the leadership of the bank.

Having been associated with NMB Bank since 2009, Ghimire commenced his banking career in 1995 at Nepal Bangladesh Bank. He holds a Master’s degree in Business Studies (MBS) and a Bachelor's degree in Law from Tribhuvan University. Recognized for his expertise in branch banking and credit banking, he was appointed as Deputy Chief Executive Officer (DCEO) on Ashoj 11, 2079 (September 2022).

Furthermore, the Board of Directors has promoted Deputy CEO Sudesh Upadhyaya to the position of Senior Deputy CEO. Upadhyaya was also appointed as Deputy CEO on Ashoj 11, 2079.

Upadhyaya brings extensive experience in the banking sector, having commenced his career in 1998 at Standard Chartered Bank Nepal (formerly Nepal Grindlays Bank). Over the course of 17 years, he has worked with Standard Chartered Bank Nepal, Standard Chartered Bank Qatar, and Mashreq Bank in Qatar. He joined NMB Bank in 2015 as a Senior Manager and subsequently progressed through various leadership roles, including Deputy General Manager and Deputy CEO. Upadhyaya, an MBA graduate from Tribhuvan University, specializes in international banking, corporate banking, SME banking, retail banking, and transaction banking.
