During a joint parliamentary session on Monday, Finance Minister Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat revealed the budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2080/81. The announcement was made in the federal parliament, involving both the National Assembly and House of Representatives.
In his address to the joint session, Finance Minister Mahat emphasized that the government is committed to facilitating the entry of Non-Residential Nepalis (NRNs) into the capital market through the forthcoming budget. He further emphasized that measures will be taken to ensure that the investments from NRNs are channeled into the hydro and real sectors.
Additionally, the Finance Minister mentioned that the government will provide licenses for new commodity exchanges. Previously, the procedure to grant licenses for stock exchange had been halted.
These initiatives aim to encourage small and medium-scale enterprises, prioritizing the interests of investors.
The constitutional requirement mandates the government to unveil the budget on Jestha 15 each year.
Earlier, on Jestha 05, President Ram Chandra Paudel, who held the presidency at the time, presented the policies and programs of the ruling coalition government for the upcoming fiscal year. Typically, the government formulates the budget based on these outlined policies and programs, serving as a roadmap for its planned course of action.
