Govt Allocates Rs. 18.88 Billion for Rebuilding Roads and Bridges Damaged by Floods and Landslides

The Ministry of Finance has approved the release of Rs. 18.88 billion for the reconstruction of infrastructure severely damaged by the floods and landslides in the last week of September. The funds will be allocated to 26 projects, including the rebuilding of roads and bridges.
The decision came after the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport formally requested financial support on February 16. Following the request, a resource agreement was finalized on Wednesday to facilitate reconstruction efforts.
As per the ministry, the approved budget covers the reconstruction of 13 roads and 13 bridges. Major highways set for repair include BP Highway, Mechi Highway, Araniko Highway, and Kanti Highway, among others.
In addition to this, the ministry has granted approval to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority to establish a temporary office and recruit personnel to accelerate the reconstruction of structures impacted by the Jajarkot earthquake.
