Finance Minister Dr Yubaraj Khatiwada said on Saturday that the government would do its efforts in making youth self-reliant. "The youth earning academic degree no longer need to go abroad for a job as the government has made arrangements for business startup by giving them subsidized loans, and has brought in various programmes to create job opportunities for youth," he said at a programme in Jhapa.

The government has recently launched the programme to provide a business loan at a subsidized interest rate at five percent to those who have returned home after foreign employments.

Minister Khatiwada also expressed happiness over the 'effectiveness' of the initiative of the Youth and Small Entrepreneur Self Employment Fund in Jhapa. The Fund was launched across the country in 2008 in a bid to create 30,000 jobs to youth. Under the Fund, youth can get loan to start own business and be self-employed. On the occasion, it was shared that a total of 2300 youth in Jhapa district took loans of Rs 330 million in three phases under the Fund.
