There are currently 31 closed-end mutual funds listed on Nepal Stock Exchange, whereas 6 open-end schemes are traded directly in the respective fund manager. Prabhu Smart Fund (PSMF) has recently issued its units to the general public and is yet to be listed for trading in NEPSE, upon which there will be 38 schemes altogether. Mutual Funds have an investment in listed/unlisted companies of Rs. 20.48 Arba in the month of Falgun compared to Rs. 21 Arba in Magh, 2079.

Sector-wise Breakdown
Investment in the commercial banking industry accounts for the highest sector-wise investment of Rs. 6.565 Arba, making up 32.78% of total investment. Likewise, they have an investment of Rs. 2.520 Arba in shares of the Microfinance sector, accounting for 12.58% of the total investment. The Non-life Insurance sector stands at the third-highest investment priority for mutual funds with an investment worth Rs. 2.289 Arba, contributing 11.43% of total investments.
Commercial Banks:
Among the commercial banks, NIC Asia Bank Limited (NICA) is seen as the top priority for investment by mutual funds. It accounts for an investment worth Rs. 1.037 Arba. Sanima Bank Limited (SANIMA) stands in the second position with an investment of Rs. 59.03 crores. Nabil Bank Limited (NABIL) stands in the third position with an investment of Rs. 45.32 crores.
Development Banks:
As for the development banks, Garima Bikas Bank Limited (GBBL) has the highest investment preference among mutual funds. The mutual funds have invested an amount worth Rs. 39.69 crores. Muktinath Bikas Bank Limited (MNBBL) is seen in the second position with an investment worth Rs. 36.55 crores. Shine Resunga Development Bank Limited (SHINE) has an investment of Rs. 17.05 crores in the third position.
Finance:
As for the finance companies, the top two investments were Manjushree Finance Limited (MFIL) and Goodwill Finance company Limited (GFCL). Mutual funds invested Rs. 11.79 Crores in MFIL, and Rs. 8.66 crores in GFCL.
Hotels and Tourism:
Among the four listed hotels and the tourism sector in NEPSE, mutual funds have given higher priority to Chandragiri Hills Limited (CGH) with an investment of Rs. 3.75 crores.
Hydropower Companies:
The inclination of investment in hydropower companies for mutual funds was in Sanima Mai Hydropower Limited (SHPC) with an investment of Rs. 20.01 crores, Chilime Hydropower Company Limited (CHCL) with an investment of Rs. 18.95 crores, and Arun Kabeli Power Limited (AKPL) with an investment of Rs. 13.68 crores.
Life Insurance Companies:
Among the life insurance companies in Nepal, National Life Insurance Company Limited (NLICL), Life Insurance Corporation Limited (LICN), and Nepal Life Insurance Company Limited (NLIC) are the investment companies of top priority for mutual funds. Mutual Fund schemes have around Rs. 60.09 crores in investments in NLICL, Rs. 37 crores in investments in LICN, and Rs. 33.89 crores in NLIC.
Manufacturing and Products:
Mutual Funds have invested Rs. 23.32 crores in Himalayan Distillery Limited (HDL), Rs. 17.67 crores in Shivam Cements Limited (SHIVM), and Rs. 5.25 crore in Bottlers Nepal (Terai) Limited (BNT) as of Falgun, 2079.
Microfinance Companies:
Among the listed microfinance companies, Chhimek Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (CBBL), Sana Kisan Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (SKBBL), and Nirdhan Utthan Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (NUBL) were the top three investment priorities for mutual funds. Mutual Funds invested Rs. 45.28 crore in CBBL, Rs. 25.65 crores in SKBBL, and Rs. 24.79 crore in NUBL.
Mutual Fund:
The mutual fund schemes also invest in other mutual funds. Global IME Balance Fund-I (GIBF1) falls under the highest investment value mutual fund. It has an investment of Rs. 6.75 crores. NIC Asia Flexi Cap Fund (NICFC) has the second-highest equity fund with a value of Rs. 5.95 crores. Finally, RBB Mutual Fund 1 (RMF1) stood third-highest investment of Rs. 5.57 crores.
Non-Life Insurance companies:
Among the non-life insurance companies in Nepal, Neco Insurance Company Limited (NIL), Premier Insurance Company Limited (PIC), and NLG Insurance Company Limited (NLG) are the investment companies of top priority for mutual funds. Mutual Fund schemes have around Rs. 53.89 crore investments in NIL, Rs. 33.2 crore in PIC, and Rs. 21.3 crores in NLG.

As for the Investment sector, Citizen Investment Trust (CIT) has the highest investment worth Rs. 28.95 crores. Similarly, Nepal Infrastructure Bank Limited (NIFRA) stands in the second position with an investment of Rs. 7.39 crores.
