IGC meeting concludes

Nepal and India have concluded a two-day-long commerce secretary-level talks in New Delhi. The commerce secretary-level talk, which is also known as intergovernmental committee (IGC) meeting, concluded today with both sides agreeing to harmonise standards of goods to reduce the technical barriers to trade like sanitary and phyto-sanitary measures and labelling and packaging of industrial goods. Similarly, both the countries agreed to develop common trade-related infrastructure, which is one of the crucial aspects for trade facilitation. India also decided to allow Nepal to carry third-country cargoes to the railheads of Jogbani and Nautanwa through rail service. The commerce secretary-level talks also decided to simplify the process of sending remittance from India to Nepal. The IGC, constituted under the India-Nepal Treaty of Trade, will organise its next meeting in Kathmandu. The meeting that concluded today was held after a gap of three years.
