Ilam District Completes 59 Irrigation Projects Benefiting Over 2,100 Households
In the fiscal year 2080/81 BS, Ilam district successfully completed the construction of 59 irrigation projects, investing Rs 348.7 million. These projects, undertaken under the Small Irrigation Programme, have significantly benefited more than 2,100 households in the region.
Farmers in various areas of Ilam are delighted with the new irrigation facilities that have made their farmlands more productive. Keshav Lama, Chief of the Small Irrigation Programme, reported that ten small irrigation projects were completed in Suryodaya Municipality, nine in Ilam Municipality, eight in Mangsebung Rural Municipality, and seven in Mai Municipality.
Asman Yonghang from Gajurmukhi village in Mangsebung Rural Municipality expressed relief, noting that their reliance on rainwater has ended thanks to the Pakrumba canal, which was constructed with an investment of around four million rupees. Additionally, an irrigation project was completed in Lapsibote village in Maijogmai Rural Municipality, benefiting 58 households with a five million rupee investment.
These irrigation projects were made possible through the collaborative efforts of the federal government, provincial government, local government, and the Swiss Government, demonstrating the effectiveness of partnership in enhancing local agricultural infrastructure.
