The International Monetary Fund (IMF) now ranks India's economy as the fifth largest in the world. According to IMF predictions, India has surpassed the UK to take over as the fifth-largest economy in the world, trailing behind the US, China, Japan, and Germany.

India has surpassed Britain in economic strength after 75 years of independence from the British colony.

When comparing the GDP of the two nations, India's GDP per capita is lower since it has a population that is 20 times that of the United Kingdom. India has a per capita GDP of $2,500 while the UK has a per capita GDP of $47,000.

India's GDP increased by 13.5% in the most recent quarter, the fastest rate in a year, keeping the title of fastest growing economy in the world. However, rising interest rates and the potential for a global recession could reduce the growth in the upcoming quarters.

India currently contributes 3.5 percent of the global GDP. The United States leads with 24.1%, followed by China with 19.80%, Japan with 4.8%, and Germany with 4.1%.
