With the business environment improving in the country, Doha Bank, one of the largest commercial banks of Qatar, has showed willingness to open its liaison office at Nepal. Seeking the permission for the same, the bank had reportedly sought permission from the central bank few months ago and had already received the permission couple of months back, as per the information received.
Apparently, the Qatar based bank is planning to begin its operation in Nepal within few months from now which should be another cornerstone to Nepalese banking institutions to receive Qatari investments. However, it is highly unlikely that the general people would be able to conduct banking transactions with this bank as the liaison office would only provide support in opening LC, facilitate foreign transactions, among its limited work areas.
The bank has a paid up value of 3.10 arba Qatari Riyal and has its business at different 13 countries in the world. The bank which was established in 1989 would be the first international bank to establish its liaison office in Nepal.
With the establishment of the liaison office at Nepal, this may undoubtedly become a new precursor to bring billions of Qatari hard currency to be invested in hydropower, tourism and other infra sector of Nepal as investment from Qatar is well-known throughout the globe with hundreds of billions of the investment in both developed and developing countries.
