Indrajatra's chariot taken around

The chariots of Shreeganesha, Shreebhairav, and Shree Kumari were taken out on a procession on the occasion of Indra Jatra.

The procession of Shreeganesha, Shreebhairav, and Shree Kumari was also held on the main day of Indrajatra, i.e. on Sunday.  Chief of Guthi Sansthan, Kathmandu, Hari Prasad Subedi, shared that the Indra Jatra was a long procession of the Kathmandu valley which started on the day of Bhadra Shukla Dwadashi.

On coming Friday, only women will pull the chariot. On the same evening, President Bidya Devi Bhandari will visit Hanumandhoka Durbar and receive Tika and Prasad from the Kumari, the living goddess. After receiving the Tika Prasad, there is a tradition whereby the President exchanges sword with the Kumari.

Indra Jatra, which lasts for more than two weeks, ends on Friday night.

The festival of Indra Jatra is believed to have started during the rule of King Pratap Malla. The practice of rath yatra or chariot process in Indrajatra was started by King Gunakamdev.

During this festival, Indra, regarded as the god of rain and good times, is worshiped.
