Kabeli Corridor Transmission Line Restored After 19-Day Reconstruction Effort
The reconstruction of the double-circuit 132 kV Kabeli Corridor Transmission Line has been successfully completed, following substantial flood damage on September 28. The Maikhola river's floods had damaged four towers at Dhodrebesi in Ilam's Mai Municipality, disrupting the power supply in the region. Through a collaborative effort between the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) and 20 private hydroelectric projects linked to the Kabeli Corridor, the transmission line resumed operations at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
Mohan Karki, an energy entrepreneur involved in the project, confirmed that the restoration work concluded in an impressive 19 days. The reactivation of the transmission line has enabled hydroelectric projects in Taplejung, Panchthar, and Ilam to resume power production, restoring vital electricity to the area.
The NEA provided the necessary spare parts and equipment, while private-sector power projects contributed to additional expenses, including labor. This joint initiative reflects a strong commitment to rapid restoration and reliable power supply across the region.
The flood had completely destroyed towers No. 51 and 52, requiring new constructions, while towers No. 50 and 53 were partially damaged and successfully repaired. The restored transmission line, extending from Godak in Ilam to Damak in Jhapa, is crucial for maintaining uninterrupted power transmission in eastern Nepal.
