Kathmandu Metropolitan City Allocates Budget of NPR 25.54 Arba for the Coming Fiscal Year 2080/81
Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has unveiled a budget of NPR 25.54 Arba for the upcoming financial year 2080/81. The budget comprises NPR 8.61 Arba for operational expenses and NPR 16.93 Arba for capital investments. The allocation for the operational side accounts for 33.72 percent of the total budget, while the capital side receives 66.28 percent.
Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol presented the budget in the Municipal Council meeting on Sunday, citing bank balances as the primary source of funds. The metropolis currently holds a bank balance of NPR 11.75 Arba.
Additionally, the budget includes conditional grants of NPR 1.45 crore from the federal and state governments, unconditional grants of NPR 89.36 crore, internal income of NPR 6.39 Arba, revenue sharing of NPR 2.16 Arba, and NPR 2 Arba from social security and land consolidation.
The Metropolitan has allotted NPR 3.80 Arba for projects highlighting the city's pride in ten thematic areas. Furthermore, NPR 2 Arba has been designated for schemes under the Metropolitan Golden Projects, spanning 25 thematic areas.
Priority schemes initiated by the ward have been granted NPR 1.76 million Arba.
The education sector secures the largest share of the budget, with NPR 7.34 Arba allocated. Similarly, NPR 92 crore has been allocated to the health sector.
Earlier, on Friday, the annual policy and program for the upcoming financial year 2080-081 had been approved for Kathmandu Metropolitan City. The policy program was passed after discussions during the second meeting of the 13th session held on Friday at the Rastriya Sabha Griha.

As per the Local Government Operation Act, it is mandatory for local levels to present their annual budgets before the 10th of Ashad each year.
