Kulman Ghising Reappointed Managing Director of Nepal Electricity Authority
Kulman Ghising has been appointed as the Managing Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority. A cabinet meeting held on Monday appointed Ghising as the managing director of NEA.
Ghising had stepped out of the post after completion of his 4-years tenure on Bhadra, 2077. The ministry is preparing to issue an appointment letter to Ghising today.
Ghising is hailed across the country for playing an instrumental role in eliminating load shedding in Nepal. He is credited for the reforms in management and tactical planning made under his leadership that functionally eliminated hours-long power outage in the country.
The current leadership of NEA was accused by some of not being able to move ahead with many projects started during Ghising's previous tenure. However, as soon as the new government was formed, an agreement was reached between Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN-Maoist Central Committee Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' and Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Pampha Bhusal. The NEA has thus agreed to give Ghising another chance.
With the appointment of Kulman Ghising in NEA, the incumbent managing director of the NEA Hitendra Dev Shakya has been transferred to the Energy ministry. Minister Pampha Bhusal had previously requested the incumbent Managing Director of NEA Shakya to resign from his post. She said that the government would give appropriate responsibility to Shakya and asked her to leave the authority.
