Landslide Prevention Work Commences on Beni-Jomsom-Korala Road
Landslide prevention efforts have begun near the Baisari Andheri rivulet, along the border of Raghuganga Rural Municipality-2 and 3 in Myagdi District, due to daily obstructions on the Beni-Jomsom-Korala road section of the national pride Kaligandaki Corridor project.
The initiative utilizes 'rock anchoring' technology to address landslides affecting the Baisari stretch of the Beni-Jomsom road, which connects Mustang with the northern region of Myagdi. According to Sohanjung Karki, Sub-engineer of the Beni-Jomsom-Korala Road Project, the work involves drilling 30 meters into the hills above the road and installing rods to support a newly constructed retaining wall.
The Kaligandaki Corridor Project has faced disruptions due to landslides at over 50 locations in the Myagdi section, along with flooding from tributaries and erosion from the Kaligandaki River. The obstructions have caused significant difficulties for residents of Raghuganga, Annapurna Rural Municipality, and Mustang, and have impacted tourists and pilgrims traveling on the Beni-Jomsom road.
