Maldhunga-Beni Road Closed for 13 Days for Black-Topping Work
The Maldhunga-Beni road has been closed to vehicular traffic for 13 days to facilitate black-topping works. This road section is part of the Kaligandaki corridor highway, a national pride project linking the north border with the south border.
Currently, only the five-kilometre Maldhunga-Pharse section of the 13-kilometre Maldhunga-Beni road is being blacktopped, according to the Kaligandaki Corridor Maldhunga-Beni-Jomsom-Korala Road Project Office. Once this section is completed, seven kilometres of the road will remain to be asphalted in subsequent phases.
An all-party meeting held at the District Administration Office decided to close the road for traffic, with the exception of essential service vehicles, including ambulances, for 13 days starting from June 22. Drivers have been advised to use alternative routes during this period.
The Project Office indicated that the black-topping work is expected to be completed within the 13-day timeframe, weather permitting.
