Minimum wage of workers increased by 39 percent; Workers to receive at least Rs 13,450 per month

After the agreement between the government, businessmen and labour unions, the minimum wage of the workers have been fixed as Rs 13,450 per month. The agreement has increased the previous wage of Rs 9,700 by almost 39 percent.

Similarly, on a daily basis the wage rate has been increased to Rs 517 per day and in case the wage is to be paid on an hourly basis the wage rate has been fixed at Rs 69 per hour.

However, Nepal Trade Union has expressed their disagreement on the newly fixed wage amount. The union has stated that the minimum wage should be fixed at Rs 17,000 per month. Remaining labour associations have give their agreement on the newly fixed wage.

The new wage will be eligible from Shrawan, however, it will not be applicable for the workers working in the Tea Estate.

The new wage was fixed after taking into consideration the international practices, market value, country’s current economic situation, minimum basic requirements of the workers and similar other bases.

Along with the increase in the minimum wage, the festival allowances, maternity allowances and health and accident insurance premium will also increase accordingly.
