Monetary policy expected to be announced within Ashadh; Big merger provision might be discussed

The officials of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) plan to announce the monetary policies within the fourth week of Asadh. Several corporation, banks and financial institutes and concerned authorities have been providing suggestions of policies to be included in monetary policy. Besides these, the provisions that are to be researched as per the research department of NRB will also be included in monetary policy.

The recent budget expects an economic growth of 8.5% whereas an inflation within 6%. The monetary policy will revolve around the same projection of the budget.

This year’s budget is expected to focus on several policies of big merger of commercial banks. This year’s monetary policy will be the last one for governor; Dr. Chiranjibi Nepal. So, certain speculations are made that some big decisions will be taken from the current governor.  

The monetary policy is also expected to address the framework on considering gold and silver as deposits by banks in order to address the liquidity problem.
