The Nagrik Unmukti Party (NUP) and the Janamat Party are preparing to formally announce their long-awaited unification this Wednesday at Nepal Academy Hall, culminating months of behind-the-scenes discussions.

Deputy General Secretary of NUP, Rajan Gurung, confirmed that all procedural steps have been completed, with only the official declaration remaining. As per the agreed structure, Resham Chaudhary will serve as the patron of the unified party, while CK Raut will head the Executive Committee as Chairperson. Ranjita Shrestha will be Vice-Chairperson.

The new political entity will be named the Nagarik Janamat Party. It will retain the “dhakiya” symbol from NUP and adopt a new flag blending elements from both parties’ current flags.

The unification event will also unveil a 25-member secretariat and a 51-member Executive Committee. A Central Committee with up to 700 members is also being considered.

Currently, the Janamat Party has six lawmakers and the NUP four. With this merger, the Nagarik Janamat Party is poised to become a significant political force, especially in the Terai-Madhesh region.
