Nation Mourns Daman Nath Dhungana: Government Offices and NEPSE Closed Today

The Government of Nepal has declared a public holiday today to mourn the demise of former Speaker Daman Nath Dhungana. A Cabinet meeting held on Mangsri 03, 2081, observed national mourning, with all government offices remaining closed, including the stock market.
Minister for Information and Communication Technology and government spokesperson Prithvi Subba Gurung shared that the decision was made to honor the late leader.
Dhungana passed away on Sunday afternoon while undergoing treatment. His funeral will be held today at Pashupati Aryaghat with full state honors. Before the cremation, a tribute ceremony will occur at 11:30 AM at Sano Gaucharan, where Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and other dignitaries are expected to attend.
As part of the mourning, all government offices within Nepal will lower the national flag to half-mast today.
Daman Nath Dhungana, a senior advocate and politician, served as Speaker of the House of Representatives from 1991 to 1994. He also played a pivotal role as a facilitator in the government-Maoist peace talks.
