The Nepali Congress (NC) has announced that the new government will be formed according to Article 76 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal, even as Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal prepares to seek a vote of confidence. NC Chief Whip Ramesh Lekhak addressed the media following the NC Parliamentary Party (PP) meeting at the Parliament Building on Saturday, confirming that the new government will be led by UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, in line with Article 76 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal, 2015. Lekhak also stated that the NC has decided not to support Prime Minister Dahal in the vote of confidence.

Lekhak clarified that while the current vote of confidence proposal falls under Article 100, this does not impede the formation of a new government under Article 76 (2). He highlighted that the political agreement between the NC and the UML has garnered more than two-thirds of the parliamentary votes against the current government.

Additionally, the NC meeting resolved to review the strengths and weaknesses of the constitution, address implementation complexities, and undertake revisions and amendments to enhance federal democratic, republican governance, and inclusiveness. The meeting reiterated its commitment to forming a national consensus government, as agreed with the UML.

The NC and UML have decided on a phased leadership approach for the new government. UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli will lead the first phase, followed by NC Chairman Sher Bahadur Deuba in the second phase. Lekhak emphasized that the NC's parliamentary party fully supports the agreement to establish a national consensus government.
