NC Senior Leader Poudel And UML vice Chair Nembang Registers Candidacy for Presidential Election
Senior leader of the Nepali Congress Ram Chandra Poudel has filed his candidacy for the presidential election being held coming March 9.
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' and top leaders from various political parties reached the Federal Parliament building at New Baneshwor today to register Poudel's candidacy.
Poudel has been proposed for the presidential candidate by NC's President Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairperson Madhav Kumar Nepal, CPN (Maoist Centre) Senior Vice-Chairperson Narayankaji Shrestha, Janata Samajwadi Party leader Ashok Kumar Rai and Abdul Khan of the Janamat Party.
Likewise, supporters for Poudel's candidacy in the presidential bid are Chairperson of Lokatantrik Samajwadi Party Nepal, Mahantha Thakur; Vice-President of Nepali Congress, Purna Bahadur Khadka; Chairperson of Nagarik Unmukti Party, Ranjita Shrestha; Chairman of Rastriya Janamorcha, Chitra Bahadur KC; and Chief Whip of CPN (Maoist Centre), Hitraj Pandey.
President hopeful Poudel was elected Member of the House of Representatives from Tanahu-1 in the November 20 election.
Also, he was elected to the parliament from Tanahu in 2048 BS, 2051 BS, 2056 BS, 2064 BS, and 2070 BS.
Leader Poudel had already served as Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister for Home Affairs and led the Ministry of Local Development, Ministry of Agriculture, and the Ministry of Communications and Information in the past.
He also served as the Speaker of the HoR. Born in 2001 BS at Bahunpokhara of Risti Rural Municipality in Tanahu district, Poudel forayed into politics at the age of 16.
He is the founder member of the Nepal Student Union in 2027 BS and was elected to the central committee member of the party for the first time in 2034 BS.
Similarly, leader Poudel became Vice-President and acting President of the party. He was also awarded the 'Order of the Rising Sun (2020)' presented by the government of Japan.
He has written dozens of books and published seminal articles on contemporary issues.
Vice-Chairman of the CPN (UML), Subas Chandra Nembang, has filed a nomination for the presidential election from the CPN (UML). The election to the post of President is taking place on March 9.
CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli, as well as other leaders, had reached the Federal Parliament Building at New Baneshwor to file the nomination.
Chairman Oli, leaders—Prithvi Subba Gurung, Gokarna Raj Bista, Raghubir Mahaseth, and Chhabilal Bishwokarma proposed Nembang for the post while leaders—Yogesh Kumar Bhattarai, Top Bahadur Rayamaajhi, Juli Kumari Mahato, Dil Kumari Rawal Thapa, and Aman Kumar Maskey seconded the proposal.
Born on March 11, 1953 at Suntalabari of Ilam Municipality-7, Nembang had joined politics from All Nepal National Free Student Union. He is continuously in politics since 2028 BS and is now Vice Chairman of the party.
Nembang was elected as House of Representatives from Ilam-2 in 2056 as well as a member of the Constituent Assembly from Ilam-2 in 2064 BS and 2070 BS. Elected as a member of HoR from Ilam-2 in 2074BS and 2079BS, he was deputy-leader of the CPN (UML) Parliamentary Party and Chairperson of Public Accounts Committee in 2056 BS.
Leader Nembang served as Speaker of the House of Representatives in 2063 BS, Speaker of Legislative Parliament in 2064 BS, Chairman /Speaker of Constituent Assembly in 2070 BS, and Speaker of Legislative Parliament in 2072 BS. He also served as the Minister of State for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs in 2051 BS and Minister for General Administration and Local Development later.
Nembang was a teacher at the Nepal Law Campus and a senior advocate before entering politics.
