NEA to Issue Final Warning to Industries Over Unpaid Dues, Threatens Power Disconnection
The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) is preparing to issue a final warning to industries that have failed to settle outstanding payments for dedicated feeder and trunk line services. The NEA has stated that if these industries do not clear their dues, the authority will be forced to disconnect their power supply.
NEA confirmed that the final notice will be sent out in early October, offering industries a last opportunity to fulfill their payment obligations. Earlier, the NEA had reconnected power to six industries on the condition that they settle their dues within three months, but these payments have yet to be made. In June, NEA initially demanded Rs 6.6 billion in unpaid tariffs and imposed a 25 percent penalty, giving industries a 15-day deadline. When the industries failed to comply, the authority cut off power in mid-July.
However, following a change in government, the affected industries sought support from Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who questioned NEA's disconnection policy. As a result, NEA restored power to the industries in July, with the condition that dues must be paid within three months. With this deadline approaching, NEA is preparing a final reminder, warning that non-compliance will lead to power disconnection.
