The Nepal Chamber of Commerce President, Kamlesh Kumar Agrawal, and the working committee met with Nepal’s newly appointed Ambassador to India, Shankar Sharma, on November 19, 2024.

The Chamber emphasized the need for better Nepal-India trade facilitation and investment in Nepal. Agrawal pointed out that while Nepal has an open trade policy with India, practical benefits, particularly in exports, have not been realized.

The Chamber suggested reducing the trade deficit through tourism, investment, and attracting Indian investment in sectors like hydropower and services. Agrawal also urged Sharma to improve trade facilitation, including railway transportation and customs quarantine measures.

Chamber officials raised concerns about Nepali goods being delayed at Indian ports. In response, Ambassador Sharma prioritized minimizing the trade deficit, facilitating exports, and fostering private-sector cooperation between Nepal and India.
