Nepal Electricity Authority Reports Over Rs 11 Billion Profit in First Nine Months of Fiscal Year 2080-81
The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has reported a substantial profit exceeding Rs 11 billion for the first nine months of the current fiscal year, 2080-81 BS (2024-25). NEA's unprocessed financial data up to the month of Chaitra (mid-April) indicates a profit of Rs 11.06 billion.
During this period, NEA generated total revenue of Rs 93.94 billion, excluding tax. According to proactive disclosures, NEA's total expenditures—including electricity purchases, administrative costs, and project investments—amounted to Rs 82.88 billion.
In comparison, during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year, NEA reported a profit of Rs 8.88 billion, culminating in an annual profit of Rs 13.37 billion. The accumulated profit of NEA has now reached Rs 33.64 billion.
The NEA has consistently reported profits since the fiscal year 2072-73 BS (2015-16), following a period of annual losses amounting to Rs 8.89 billion. Key factors contributing to NEA's profitability include the control of electricity leakage, increased domestic consumption, exports to India, and stringent cost-cutting measures.
NEA's net revenue from domestic power supplies stood at Rs 68.89 billion. Additionally, the authority earned Rs 13.42 billion by exporting surplus power to India during this period.
