Nepal Electricity Authority Unveils Ambitious Amarpur-Dhungesanghu Transmission Line Project

The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has initiated a project to build the Amarpur-Dhungesanghu 132 kV double circuit transmission line, stretching from the Amarpur substation in Hilihang rural municipality, Panchthar, to the Dhungesanghu substation in Maiwakhola rural municipality, Taplejung. This transmission line is intended to connect the 132-kV Kabeli corridor (Damak substation: Lakhanpur in Jhapa to Amarpur substation) and the 220 kV-Koshi corridor (Inaruwa substation in Sunsari to Dhungesanghu). The Basantapur-Inaruwa section under the Koshi corridor is already operational, and the Basantapur-Dhungesanghu section is nearing completion. The Kabeli corridor is currently in operation.
The foundation stone for the Amarpur-Dhungesanghu transmission line was laid on Monday. The project involves the development of a 19-kilometer transmission line with 67 towers. Project chief Anup Gautam stated that this transmission line's completion would enhance the national grid's reliability in western Nepal, reinforcing power supply capacity. Power generated from Tamor River-based projects will connect to the national grid through the Dhungesanghu substation.
Initiated in fiscal year 2075/76 with a government investment of approximately Rs 1.20 billion, the project's transmission line construction contract was signed in 2079 BS. The project includes the construction of two line bays at Amarpur and Dhungesanghu substations. Additionally, 11 kV structures will be erected at the Dhungesanghu substation to facilitate local electricity supply. The contracts for constructing the line bays and 11 kV structures are expected to be signed in the current fiscal year, to complete all project components by fiscal year 2081/82.
