Nepal one of the toughest places to do business as per World Bank; Ranks at 110 among 190 economies
World Bank had recently published the ‘Doing Business’ report 2019. This report takes considers various aspects relating to starting and running a business in each of 190 economies of the world and ranks them accordingly.
Among 190 economies of the world, Nepal stands at 110th place in terms of ease of doing business. Last year, Nepal stood at 105th place in this aspect. Among eight south Asian countries, Nepal stands at fourth place in this aspect. In South Asian region, India stands at the first place in this aspect. India ranks at 77th place among the economies of the world followed by Bhutan at 81st place. Sri Lanka achieved a rank of 100th place making it third among south Asian countries. Nepal with rank of 110th place comes fourth followed by Pakistan with rank of 136th place. Maldives, Afghanistan and Bangladesh are at the bottom three places among south Asian countries with ranks 139, 167 and 176 respectively.
Considering the ease of starting a business, Afghanistan stands ahead among south Asian countries with 49th rank, followed by Maldives with 71st rank. Sri Lanka bags third place is this aspect with 83rd rank followed by Bhutan with 91st rank. Nepal stands at fifth place in this aspect with 107th rank. The bottom three countries in this aspect are Pakistan, India and Bangladesh with ranks 130, 137 and 138 respectively.
In terms of ease of getting electricity, Nepal stands at fourth place among south Asian countries with 137th rank behind India (24th), Bhutan (73rd) and Sri Lanka (84th).
