Nepalgunj Industrial Corridor Provides Employment for 800
The Nepalgunj industrial corridor has recently seen significant employment gains, with 800 individuals securing jobs across 34 operational industries. According to Prakash KC, Chief Engineer at the Industrial Area Management Office, 95% of these new employees are men.
Despite a decrease in production volumes compared to previous years, all industries within the corridor remain operational. Historically, the corridor employed over 1,000 individuals, with a substantial portion being Indian nationals. However, there has been a concerted effort to prioritize Nepali citizens for employment.
Purna KC, a central member of the General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions, highlighted ongoing efforts to advocate for increased employment opportunities for Nepalis in these industries.
The industrial corridor, established on 233 ropanis of land in 2030 BS (1973 AD), is a hub for the production of various goods including copper, brass, bronze, aluminum utensils, food items, electrical materials, plywood, doors, transformers, and plastic utensils.
In addition to industrial activities, the Bheri Technical School, designed to develop skilled technical human resources for the industrial sector, is also actively contributing to the workforce development in the area.
This expansion in employment opportunities underscores the corridor's role in supporting local economic growth and skill development.
